55TH KENYA VETERINARY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE (PROCEEDINGS)

The Kenya Veterinary Association, with support from partners, held a hybrid 55th Annual Scientific Conference held physically at the Sandies Tropical Village in Malindi, Kenya and virtually streamed live on Facebook and Zoom as from 27th to 28th September 2021 and marked the World Rabies Day Celebrations (WRD) on 25th and 26th September 2021 at Kibokoni and Alaskan areas of Kilifi County. The WRD was themed, “Facts not fear” while the conference was themed, “Transforming the animal resource sector for sustainable socio-economic development.“ 

The event was officially opened by the CAS – MoALF, Mr Lawrence Emuhaka. The CAS  implored more partners to join the fight against rabies so as to achieve Kenya’s target of eradicating rabies by 2030. Kilifi agriculture executive, Dr Luciana Sanzua, was happy to see World Rabies Day being held in the county for the first time.

The event highlighted the various contributions veterinarians make to the health of both animals and humans, underlining the vital role of veterinarians in ensuring animal welfare, food safety, food security, safe global trade in animals and animal products as well as protecting public health.
